Wine
Our county has waves on our dramatic coastline, and spectacular wilderness areas inland, and yet no visit would be complete without a tempting taste of our other ‘W’ – our county most certainly has some very wonderful wine, too.
Come to Mendocino County, Northern California and discover the real wine country – the way it used to be 20 years ago – before huge tour buses, tiresome lines, crowded tasting rooms and packed carparks. In Mendocino County, most of our wineries are still family owned. The person who will pour for you could well be the same passionate peson who made that fine wine. Sure, some of our wineries are understandably famous, and known through out the world, yet others are still undiscovered, their fame as yet uncorked, their bounty shared by only a lucky few – just think, that could be you!

Our appelations run the gamet from the household names to secret gems whispered by those in the know – names such as Potter Valley, Redwood Valley and Ukiah Valley, then there’s Sanel Valley, McDowell Valley, Cole Ranch and the highly prized Yorkville Highlands. Anderson Valley is home to wineries already famous as well as those soon-to-be, as is Mendocino Ridge and Dos Rios.
Mendocino County has more organic vineyards than any other. We have a wide selection of varietals all grown with success. You’ll find that Californian favourite, Chardonnay of course, and also Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and other fine White Wines and White Blends.
Then there are our special red wines – Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignane, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandels – to name just a few of our Red Wines and Red Blends.
And don’t miss the chance to savor our delicious Sparkling Wines, Rosé Wines and Dessert Wines, too.
Of course, what makes a visit extra special to our wine country, is somewhere great to stay and some where tasty to eat. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy great food with our wines at one of our excellent restaurants. Many can provide you with a wide selection of our wines to perfectly pair with their incredible edibles.
And the accomodation options are excellent, too, from quaint and romantic b & bs and country inns, to luxurious hotels and resorts. Check out the accomodation section and search via proximity to our wine country, as well as many other criteria such as ocean views, hot tubs or spas.
All in all there are more than 50 wineries located all over Mendocino County (including the western most winery on the continental United States!)
Visit GoMendo’s Great Drives Section for suggested driving tours, or create a Drive of Discovery of your own.
And visit the Festivals and Events section too – there are plenty of great wine related festivals throughout the year – as if you needed another excuse!
