Our County has wonderful wine and we can still put the wild in wilderness, but no visit to the Undiscovered County would be complete without a visit to the Waves of our dramatic coastline.

In Mendocino County, Northern California, craggy inlets and breathtaking headlands frame mile after mile of pristine sand. Many visitors are delighted by how accessible all the coastline is here—you don’t just see it from afar, you get to feel the beach beneath your feet! There are whale watching tours, fishing trips, kayaks for hire, excellent rock-pooling, horse-riding—even lama picnics on the beach!

Throughout the year, seaside festivals celebrate the coming of the whales in spring and fall, the tasty crab season, the bounty of seafood—especially salmon—that graces our tables, the arts and wine and so much more.

The drive along the Pacific Coast in our County matches any drive anywhere. You’ll pass through quaint villages, bustling towns and one of the last fully working harbors. For mile after mile you’ll have the road to yourselves.

And of course, there are many great palces to stay, several with ocean views, hot tubs and spas, proximity to other activities—there’s a reason the lodging of Mendocino county is renowned throughout the world.
